Ultrasound testing for tenderness and marbling

Because we ultrasound test live animals, we know which ones will be the most tender and marbled, which we then select for our Diamond F Brand Beef program. It is the very same technolgy that is used on pregnant women to get a picture of the fetus, only in this case we look at the muscles and what they look like in terms of size, tenderness, and percent intramuscular fat (IMF), or marbling.

Breeding

Our base herd is Hereford,but with a fair bit of Red Angus and Shorthorn cross. Lately we have been using a breed of bulls called Beef Friesien, or Irish Blacks.

Maintaining herd health

Herd health is maintained through proper nutrion and grazing management. Cattle raised in a wholesome manner generally don't get sick. Utilizing the principles of Holistic Management, we keep our cattle, pastures, and meadows vibrant and healthy.

Alternative treatments such as probiotics, homeopathics, diatomaceous earth for parasite control, and colloidal silver, among others are our first choice of treatment in the case of a sick animal.

While we maintain the ability to use antibiotics or pharmaceuticals as a last resort, any animals that have been treated are withdrawn from the Diamond F Program and never sold as Diamond F Brand Beef.

Beef packaging

Diamond F Brand Beef comes in vacuum-sealed packages with one or two steak per package, depending on the cut, and one roast per package. Hamburger comes in tubes of 1.5 and 5 pounds.

Grass fed southwestern

We also offer excellent Tamales and Burritos made here in the San Luis Valley with our premium grass fed beef. Convenience was never so healthy and delicious. Tamales come frozen in 6-packs.
