Non-Industrial Meatloaf Challenge: Recipe Contest!

Printer-Friendly Format

Win Grass Fed Beef!

We have a new recipe contest, this time it is for Meatloaf. However, there is a new twist:

No industrial food supply poisons

We only want recipes that do NOT include common, edible poisons that are so ubiquitous in the American food supply, such as HFCS, MSG, soy and more.

Prizes include:

  • 1st Prize: 9 Pounds Grass Fed Ground Sirloin Tip
  • 2nd Prize: 9 Pounds Grass Fed Ground Round
  • 3rd Prize: 9 Pounds Grass Fed Ground Beef
  • 4th Prize: 6 Pounds Grass Fed Ground Beef
  • 5th Prize: Complimentary subscription to Grass Fed & Healthy

Requirements
Since we will be cooking and eating all of the recipes we receive, we don't want to have to ingest the common poisons in the industrial food supply that we generally try to avoid religiously. Therefore, we only want recipes that do NOT include:

  • High fructose corn syrup (HFCS)
  • Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)*
  • Any and all products made with soy or soybean oil**
  • Artificial sweeteners like Aspartame or Splenda
  • Any kind of fake fat like margarine

*MSG by any other name
*Remember, MSG can be disguised by countless names, including, but not limited to:

  • Natural flavors
  • Organic flavors
  • Hydrolyzed plant protein
  • Hydrolyzed vegetable protein
  • Any kind of Hydrolyzed protein
  • Spices
  • And many more...

Also keep in mind that a product can say no added MSG, but still contain it, as the processor used premade ingredients that included it, but they didn't add it themselves. Check the sodium levels on the label, and if they are off the charts there's a good chance it includes MSG.

**Fermented Soy is OK
**Fermented soy products such as tamari and miso are exempt and will be allowed, as the fermenting makes them easier to digest and tolerate, and renders the soy not quite so harmful.

Sadly, these requirements rule out quite a large number of common Meatloaf ingredients, including:

  • Most ketchup
  • Most commercial breadcrumbs
  • Packaged seasonings and sauces
  • Soup mixes
  • Vegetable oil
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Mayonnaise
  • ...

And the list goes on. You can see how prevalent these poisons are in the Standard American Diet and industrial food supply.

Do you know of brands that don't include these ingredients?
However, if you know of specific brand names that don't contain the restricted ingredients, (such as ketchup that doesn't contain HFCS), feel free to list them in your recipe ingredients, specifically, by name.
