This calf's name is: Caramella

The word Caramel was a recurring theme

All the entries are in and we have some great names for the calf pictured at right. We had over 20 participants and the top 4 entrants win grass fed beef products, with the number 5 entry winning a 3 month subscription to Grass Fed and Healthy.

We had a recurring theme with a number of the entrants in that there were five entries that contained the word caramel.

With so many people choosing the same theme we figured it must be meant to be that the calf has the word caramel in her name.

I'm sorry to say we neglected to let entrants know whether the calf was a little bull calf or heifer. She is a heifer (female) calf, so we modified some of the male names to their female counterpart.

The winner is: "Caramella"

The number one winner was entered as Caramello, which we changed to the feminine version, Caramella. With Mike being a Nuggets fan, he liked that name best.

Some entries referred to what this calf could become, such as T-Bone and Phil A., however, this is a heifer calf so she will probably become breeding livestock either here or elsewhere and won't be processed for meat.

Betsy Markey

One of the entries is the name of a U.S. Congresswoman from Northern Colorado, Betsy Markey. We thought it was pretty funny, but I'm not sure Betsy Markey would be terribly impressed.

Multiple entries

We also had multiple entries from a few people, and in the interest of fairness we only allowed one entry per email address to be a prize winner, so those names are at the end of the list, even though there are some good ones.

Judging

The entries were judged by Mike, me, and a few friends over wine and dinner. It was a very subjective judging and it took quite a while to pick a winner. We had a lot of disagreement but also a lot of fun. In the end we finally determined the winners and the overall order.

Some entrants gave us their full names, but for others we only have email addresses and or user names, so some of the names of the entrants are simply first names, and or user names.
