Printer-Friendly Format

Grass fed beef and wild rice make this dish as flavorful as it gets!

Wild rice is one of the most wonderful whole grains on the planet, and when you combine it with our savory grass fed beef Ground Round you can serve a meal that is unique and ultra satisfying.

This recipe is easy to fix and makes a perfect pot luck dish.

Hamburger Wild Rice Hot Dish
From the north country.
Name: Hamburger Wild Rice Hot Dish
Description: This recipe is perfect for a cold and snowy winter day.
Ingredients:

  • 1 Tube (1.5 pounds) Diamond F Brand Beef Ground Round
  • 2 Cups uncooked wild rice
  • 2 Medium onions finely diced
  • 2 Medium cloves garlic finely diced
  • 10 Stalks celery chopped into small pieces
  • 1/2 Cup butter raised without added hormones (ideally pastured butter)
  • 1 Pound fresh mushrooms whole or sliced
  • 1 Cup sliced almonds
  • Sea Salt and pepper to taste
Directions: Cook wild rice:

  • 2 parts water to 1 part rice
  • Add 1 Tsp salt
  • Bring to hard boil
  • Cover and reduce heat to low
  • Cook approximately 40 minutes or until rice is done (depends on rice and if it is wood parched see instructions on package)

Putting it all together

  • In large Dutch oven Sauté onions, garlic, celery, and mushrooms in 1/4 Cup butter
  • When onions, garlic, and celery are tender add ground round and sauté until browned
  • In separate skillet sauté sliced almonds in 1/4 Cup butter until almond slices are burnt
  • Add wild rice and burnt almonds to meat mixture
  • Add salt and pepper to taste
  • Cover and cook on low to medium heat for another 15 minutes or more

You can add a little water if necessary to keep from drying out

If almonds dry out before becoming fully cooked you can add more butter to the skillet, and the same goes for sautéing the onions, garlic, celery, and mushrooms.
