A cacophony of coyotes and cranes!
Yikes! The coyotes were wound up this morning for some reason. They must have been right outside the door, they were so loud each time they woke me up at 2:30 and 4:30. Because my sleep had been so interrupted I attempted to sleep in, but then they went at it again at 6:30.
They’re so comical I can’t really get upset about it (and of course there’s nothing I could do about it anyway), but two of them can make enough noise to sound like an entire pack. They generally start out with a howl, that transforms into a high pitched “awrrrrrr” then to on the even higher pitched “yip-yip-yip.”
When they woke up our employee, he first thought it was a woman screaming, which sent his heart racing as his college age daughter is home on break, and had been out on a date that night, and he had gone to bed before she returned home for the night. So he sprung out of bed, only to realize it was just the coyotes and his daughter was home safely in bed.
So after the 6:30 round, at which time I’m generally up and on with my day, I was still in bed and decided to try to get a little more shut-eye, planning to sleep until 8:00, just because it’s been an exhausting past few days, and I was tired.
I was just drifting off, when the Sandhill cranes went flying over the house, and there must have been at least 40 or 50 of them in a flock, and they began their crane cacophony! With so many flying right over the house, they too were extremely loud, and once again woke me up.
At least the cranes are slightly more civilized in that they don’t become noisy until around sunrise. But I love the sound of them so much, and we don’t get to hear it all the time, (they only come through here twice a year on their migrations), that I just laid in bed and smiled to myself, then decided to just get up and get on with the day.
